Two-day saw-making workshop

Over the two days you'll mark out a handle to fit your hand, drill accurately with forstner bits, and shape the handle on the bandsaw and with routers, rasps and files. Then you cut and shape the brass back, drill the blade, peen the brass, and learn saw tooth geometry and how to sharpen. All materials are included.

What to expect

Friendly, fully guided, at your pace

I've taught beginners through to seasoned instructors, aged 18 to 80, and mostly women. Everyone gets the same thing: a structured, step by step process, demonstrated in front of you with purpose made jigs and examples, so you know what you're doing and what it should look like. Safety comes first, every time.

I'll meet you where your skills are at. If you're new to woodworking you'll be guided through every step. If you're experienced, we'll push a little further. Skills from other parts of your life come in handy too. Sewing machinists, for instance, have a lovely deft touch on the bandsaw.

No rush

There's a structure, but it flexes to your pace. This isn't a race. It should be an enjoyable, fulfilling couple of days, and a happy memory every time you pick up the saw.

Use your senses

Small adjustments make the difference. You'll learn to listen to the tool and feel the feedback from the cut, not just look at it.

Your body is the jig

Efficient body mechanics give you more control and precision. Thirty years of karate taught me that, and it carries straight into the workshop.

Before you come

Good to know

Most of the workshop can be adapted for different physical abilities and neurodivergent needs. Get in touch and we can talk through how best to support the way you learn. Please also read the Workshop Policy and Liability Waiver before you come.
