Terms of Sale
Updated: October 2026
About these terms
I am Karen (Kaz) Davis, trading as Kaz Saw, a sole trader based in Melbourne, Victoria. My ABN is 37 507 635 679.
I am not registered for GST. My prices for saws and commissions do not include GST, and the invoices I issue are not tax invoices. Workshop fees are billed by the Phoebe Everill Furniture Making School, not by me, and do include GST (see Workshops below).
These terms apply to every finished saw I sell, every commission I take on and, once I offer it, my sharpening and restoration service. The invoice I email you, together with these terms, forms the agreement between us. If an invoice says something different from these terms, the invoice applies to that sale.
Personal information you give me when you enquire or order is handled as described in my Privacy Policy.
Finished saws
Every saw on my Items For Sale page is a one-off. Each listing shows whether the saw is Available or Sold.
To buy a saw, send an enquiry through the form on the listing or email me. I will confirm that the saw is still available and email you an invoice with payment details.
A saw is reserved for you only once I have received payment in full. Until then it remains available to other buyers. If a saw is sold before your payment arrives, I will tell you straight away and refund any payment you have made in full.
Prices are in Australian dollars. No GST is charged. Postage is added to the invoice as set out under Delivery below.
Commissions
A commission begins with an enquiry through my Commissions page or by email. We then settle the saw type, timber and handle size by phone or email. I confirm the price once those three things are agreed.
I then email a deposit invoice for 50% of the price. Making starts once the deposit is paid and I have received a photo of your hand measurement.
Hand measurements. The handle of a commissioned saw is made to fit the measurement in the photo you send me. Taking that measurement correctly is your responsibility. Please follow my guide, How to measure your hand, and check the photo before you send it. If you are unsure, ask me before I start, because I cut the handle to that measurement.
Timeframe. Build time is usually 12 to 16 weeks from the date the deposit is paid, depending on my waitlist at the time. This is an estimate, not a promise. I will let you know if your saw is going to take longer.
Changes. You can change the type, timber or size of your saw at any time before making starts. Once making has started, a change may not be possible. Where it is possible, it may add cost and time, and I will quote both before going ahead.
Your own timber. I am happy to consider making a handle from timber you supply, for example a piece with family history. I need to assess the timber before I agree, and I will only use it if I am satisfied it is sound and suitable. Timber can have hidden faults that only show up during making. If your timber fails, I will tell you, and we will agree on a replacement from my own stock. I cannot guarantee timber I did not source, and I cannot replace timber of yours that is lost in making.
When the saw is finished I email a balance invoice for the remaining 50%. I post the saw once the balance is paid.
Payment
I accept payment by bank transfer (EFT) or PayID only. The details are on each invoice. I do not take card payments, and nothing is sold through this website.
For a finished saw, payment in full is due before the saw is reserved for you. For a commission, the deposit is due before making starts and the balance is due when I tell you the saw is finished. I hold the saw until the balance is paid. If the balance is still unpaid 30 days after the balance invoice, I will send a reminder. If it remains unpaid 14 days after that reminder, I may treat the commission as cancelled under the Cancellations section and offer the saw for sale.
Delivery
I post within Australia only, using Australia Post registered post with signature on delivery. Postage is added to your invoice at cost, usually between $20 and $35 depending on where you are.
I can post to a street address or a PO box. I am not set up for pickup or visits, so every saw is posted.
I post within 3 days of your payment clearing and email you the tracking number. Australia Post usually delivers within 3 to 6 business days of posting. I cannot control delivery times once a parcel has been lodged.
Please check your address carefully before you confirm it. If a parcel is returned or lost because the address you gave me was wrong or incomplete, I will ask you to cover the cost of posting it again.
Responsibility for the saw passes to you when the parcel is delivered to your address. If a parcel goes missing or arrives damaged, let me know as soon as you can. I will lodge the claim with Australia Post as the sender and arrange a repair, replacement or refund with you. Please keep the saw and all of the packaging as they arrived, and send me photographs of any damage, as Australia Post needs these to assess a claim.
Inspection, faults and returns
Please look over your saw as soon as it arrives. If anything seems wrong, contact me before using it.
My goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits those rights.
What counts as a fault. A saw that does not match what we agreed, a blade that is bent, cracked or missing teeth on arrival, a handle that is split or does not match the size we agreed, or hardware that is damaged on arrival.
What does not count as a fault. Every handle is cut from a different piece of timber, so colour, grain and figure vary from the photographs and from saw to saw. Small natural marks in the timber and the marks of hand shaping are part of a handmade saw, not defects. Teeth dull with use, and hardwoods dull them faster; that is normal and a matter of sharpening. Rust, staining or a swollen or cracked handle caused by damp storage, misuse or lack of care is not covered. My Saw Care Guide explains how to look after your saw.
Change of mind. A commission is made to your measurements and choices, so I cannot accept a change-of-mind return or give a change-of-mind refund on a commission. For a finished saw bought from my Items For Sale page, I accept a change-of-mind return if you contact me within 14 days of delivery and the saw is unused and in the condition it was sent, with its packaging. You pay the return postage and must send the saw by registered post. I refund the price of the saw once it arrives back in that condition. The original postage is not refunded.
How to make a claim. Email me with your name, the invoice number, a description of the problem and photographs. Please do not post the saw back until I have replied, as I will tell you how to pack and send it. If the problem is covered by the consumer guarantees, I will reimburse your reasonable cost of returning the saw.
Cancellations
Finished saws. If you change your mind before paying, you owe nothing and the saw stays available to others. Once you have paid, the change-of-mind terms above apply.
Commissions, before making starts. You may cancel for any reason and I will refund your deposit in full.
Commissions, after making starts. You may still cancel. I will deduct the reasonable costs I have actually incurred on your saw up to that point, such as timber cut for your handle, a blade prepared to your specification and the time spent, and refund the rest of your deposit. I will show you how the deduction was worked out. If those costs come to more than your deposit, I keep the deposit and ask for nothing more.
If I have to cancel. If I cannot complete your commission, for example because the timber we agreed on cannot be sourced or because of illness, I will tell you as soon as I can and refund everything you have paid in full.
Sharpening and restoration service
I plan to offer sharpening, retoothing and small restoration work on handsaws. The service is not available yet. These terms will apply once it is.
Contact me first with photographs of the saw. If I think I can help, you post the saw to me by registered post at your cost. I assess it and email you a quote before any work starts. If you decide not to go ahead, you pay only the cost of posting the saw back to you.
You pay postage both ways. Old blades and handles can have hidden damage, and not every blade can be brought back. If I find during the work that a blade cannot be restored, I will stop, let you know and charge only for the work done to that point.
Workshops
My saw-making workshops are held at the Phoebe Everill Furniture Making School. The school handles registration, deposits and payment under its own terms, and the workshop fee is set and invoiced by the school, so it includes GST. You are welcome to arrange a place through me, and I will put you in touch with the school to finalise your booking. I do not take workshop payments myself, and these terms do not apply to workshop bookings.
Dates and details are on my Workshops page. My Workshop Policy and Liability Waiver sets out what applies on the day.
Website content and intellectual property
The words, photographs and drawings on this website are my own work and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to share them for personal, non-commercial purposes with a credit to Kaz Saw and a link back to this website. Please do not copy, sell or use my content commercially without my written permission.
The guides in my Maker’s Journal and Saw Care Guide are general information based on my own experience. They are not professional advice, and you rely on them at your own risk. Please read my Disclaimer before using any saw.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when I issue your invoice is the version that applies to that sale. The date at the top of this page shows when the terms were last changed.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of Victoria. If something goes wrong, please contact me first so that we can try to sort it out between us.
