Privacy Policy

Updated: October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, store and share the personal information you give me through this website, kazsaw.com.au, and in the course of running Kaz Saw.

I am Karen (Kaz) Davis, trading as Kaz Saw, a sole trader based in Melbourne, Victoria (ABN 37 507 635 679). I make backsaws, sell them by enquiry and teach saw-making workshops. I handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and I send email updates in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

What I collect and when

You can browse this website without telling me who you are. I collect personal information when you choose to give it to me. Every enquiry form on this site asks you to agree to this policy before you send it, and the subscribe form collects only your email address.

Enquiry forms. The contact, commission, workshop and items for sale forms ask for your first name, your email address and a message. Depending on the form they may also ask for your last name, your phone number, what your enquiry is about, which saw or workshop you are interested in, your handle size and your woodworking experience. The commission form lets you attach a photo of your hand measurement so I can confirm your handle size.

Updates list. If you tick the updates box on a form, enter your email address in the subscribe form in the footer, or sign up at an event where I have a stall, I collect your email address, and your name if you give it, so I can send you occasional updates.

Direct enquiries. If you contact me by email, phone or Instagram, I keep the details you send me, such as your name, your contact details and what we discussed. Instagram is linked from this site but not embedded in it, and messages sent there are also handled under Instagram’s own privacy policy.

Orders and commissions. If you buy a saw or commission one under my Terms of Sale, I collect what I need to invoice you and deliver the saw: your name, email address, phone number, postal address and a record of what you ordered and what you paid. Payment is by bank transfer or PayID, so I never see your card details, and this website does not take payments or hold customer accounts.

Workshops. Workshop places can be arranged through me or directly with Phoebe Everill Furniture Making School. Either way, the school finalises the booking, handles payment and has its own privacy practices. The school and I share the names and contact details of the people who have registered so we both know who is attending and can prepare and tailor the course to the group in advance. Before the workshop I also ask each participant for an emergency contact and, in confidence, for anything that may affect their safety on the day, as set out in my Workshop Policy and Liability Waiver. I use that information only to plan a safe day for you, and I do not pass it on unless it is needed in an emergency.

Website use. Like most websites, this one records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. See the analytics and cookies section below.

Why I use your information

I use your personal information to reply to your enquiries, to quote for and make commissioned saws, to invoice you and deliver what you have bought, to arrange and run workshops, and to keep the business records I am required to keep under Australian tax law. If you have opted in, I also use your email address to send you updates.

I do not sell your personal information and I do not use it for any purpose unrelated to Kaz Saw.

Who I share it with

I share personal information only where it is needed to run the business, and each provider receives only what it needs for its part of the job.

Email delivery. Form submissions are sent to my inbox through a transactional email service, and I reply from my own email account.

Updates list. If you opt in to updates, your name and email address are sent to MailerLite, the service I use to send them. MailerLite stores its data in the European Union, so these details leave Australia.

Analytics. Google Analytics processes data about how this website is used on Google servers, which may be located outside Australia. See the analytics and cookies section below.

Website hosting. This website, including the form submissions stored in it, is hosted on servers in Sydney, Australia, and managed for me by Pixelbark, which resells hosting from Kinsta.

Workshops. If you arrange a workshop place through me, I pass your name and contact details to Phoebe Everill Furniture Making School so it can finalise your booking, and the school passes me the details of people who book directly with it, so we both know who is attending and can plan the course.

Delivery. When I post a saw to you, I give your name, postal address and phone number to Australia Post so the parcel can be delivered and tracked.

Professional advisers. I do not currently use an accountant or bookkeeper. If I engage one in future, they may see invoices and payment records that include customer names as part of keeping my tax records.

Legal requirements. I will disclose personal information where the law requires me to.

Apart from the updates list and analytics services described above, I do not send your personal information overseas.

Analytics and cookies

This website uses Google Analytics 4 to help me understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser that recognise your browser across visits. They do not identify you by name. The data is sent to Google and is handled under Google’s privacy policy.

This website does not show a cookie banner because Australian law does not require one. If you would rather not be included in analytics, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works normally without these cookies.

The security software on this website also records the IP address of each request so it can block attacks. These records are used only for security.

How I keep your information

Form submissions are emailed to me and are also stored in this website, which is kept up to date, protected by security software and accessible only to me and to Pixelbark, which maintains the site for me. My email, invoices and updates list are held in password protected accounts.

I keep enquiry records, including form submissions and emails, for as long as I run the business, so I can recognise returning customers and answer questions about past orders. You can ask me to delete yours at any time. Order and invoice records are kept for as long as Australian tax law requires. The updates list is kept until you unsubscribe.

No website or email service is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee the security of information sent over the internet, but I take reasonable steps to protect it.

Updates and unsubscribing

I only send updates to people who have asked for them by ticking the updates box on a form, using the subscribe form in the footer or signing up at an event. Updates are occasional and cover new workshop dates and saw releases. I do not add enquiry contacts to the list unless they opt in.

Every update email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email me and I will remove you from the list.

Access, correction and deletion

You can ask me at any time to tell you what personal information I hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. Email me using the address below and I will respond within a reasonable time. There is no charge. I may need to confirm that you are the person the information relates to before I act on a request. If I have to keep some information for legal reasons, such as tax records, I will tell you.

Complaints

If you are concerned about how I have handled your personal information, please email me first and I will do my best to sort it out. If you are not satisfied with my response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time as the website or the business changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. The version published here applies to all personal information I hold.
